“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”
Our foundation for everything
The Gospel is good news! It is good news that God is not distant or detached but has come near to us through Jesus Christ.
It’s good news about Jesus who, through his death and resurrection, achieves a salvation for humanity that we couldn’t achieve for ourselves. As individuals we are saved from the power of sin and are made new, pointing us to a day coming when God will renew the whole world and all of creation.
This gospel story about God and what he has done for us through Jesus is now our story. This is what defines us – who we are and what we do. We are not trying to earn God’s favour, but in gratitude we now get to live in light of the favour he has already shown us. Now we get to live as redeemed people – we get to be his Church, together.
Our new identity
The Gospel changes who we are
We are not defined by what we do. We are defined by what God has done through Jesus for us. Our goodness or ‘religion’ isn’t dependent on how good we can be, but on how good God has been for us. So, we don’t define ourselves by buildings, activities or programs. What we do is based upon and motivated by what God has done and who God has made us to be.
Because of who God is and what he has done, we are forever new and given a new identity in this world. We are now Disciples and followers of Jesus. We are now Family, sons and daughters of God. We are now Missionaries, sent by God to restore and reconcile the world to himself. We are now Servants who bless and sacrifice our lives for Clarence South as a way of life.
“All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had”
We are on mission as Family and Servants of Jesus Christ in the everyday stuff of life
Church is more than a building, it is all of our life. We are on mission together, every day. We want to equip, encourage and support all our family to be on mission at work, school, at home and in all parts of life. Missional Communities seek to love and support each other throughout all parts of life. We don’t want to add another thing to our week but rather seek to love and support each other in a way that makes our lives more fruitful for the Kingdom.
We are the Church as we love each other. We are the Church as we serve the community. We are the Church as we love our neighbours. We are the Church when we meet to worship God on Sunday. We are the Church when we gather around the table to share food. We are the Church every day.
