We all need a Hero

As 2023 draws to an end- it got me thinking about how much we need a HERO!

Someone who not only goes before us- paving the way- BUT who also makes it possible to live right before God.

I recall reading the Sermon on the Mount with a friend who didn’t know what it was to follow Jesus. He loved it! He said: ‘that is how I want people in the world to live!!’

I then asked him: ‘how about you? Do you live that way? Do you perfectly love those who hate you? Do you ever tell a lie?’

His answer was: ‘Of course nobody expects us to be perfect!’

My friend had grasped the Sermon on the Mount well.

God knows we want to live in a perfect world, we want to live in a world where that is how people act, but we can't act that way ourselves.

The teaching of the Sermon on the Mount seems somewhat unachievable because it aims at the heart problem, human motives, attitudes, and inner righteousness.

We hunger and thirst for righteousness, but our hearts can’t reach it.

It's only when we look to the One who can give us righteousness that we find the answer.

We must look to the hero of the Sermon on the Mount!
