Let’s talk about MONEY!

What makes Christians shy about talking about money?

Is it because we think of this as a highly personal topic?

It’s private- something between God and me.

Jesus did indeed teach discretion. Not to go about publicly announcing what we give.

“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.  But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (Matthew 6:2-4)

But I’m pretty sure there is more to it than discretion.

We hesitate to speak about money because of a problem far deeper- a heart problem.

Our hearts are prone to love money.

We are too easily greedy. Or jealous. Or discontented and wanting more.

This week, we will look at some of the Bible’s teachings on money- not because we are worried about money. But because we are called to follow God with our whole hearts. We are called to live generously in light of the generous grace shown to us in Jesus.
